Looking for that perfect Christmas gift?

What? Christmas already? That’s what I thought too when the O & H Kringle catalog arrived in my mailbox. If it arrives in your mailbox I highly advise that you think twice before opening it. It should come with warning labels.

PECAN.jpgO & H Kringle has been around for four generations. They produce authentic, hand-made Danish Kringle that is legendary if you live in the Racine, WI area. I had heard for years about kringle from Greg (a Racine native) – ok, not just kringle, but O & H Kringle. Greg told me time and time again that if it wasn’t O & H Kringle, it wasn’t really kringle and it wasn’t worth your time.

I just humored him.

Then one day my cousins from Racine turned up on the doorstep and within minutes of talking to Greg, the subject just naturally turned to O & H kringle. It appeared that they were equally as obsessed by the stuff.

And so I found O & H online and ordered one for a Christmas present for Greg. And I have to admit, it is by far the best kringle in the world. (But don’t tell Greg that. It’ll just encourage him.)

So if you haven’t tried kringle and you want to, give them a try. Their online ordering and delivery is great. If you have tried non O & H Kringle and don’t believe there’s a difference, give it a try too. You will love it.

And, if you want to order it for Christmas, mark your calendars now because they get swamped and cut off the online ordering once that happens!

Wow! I’ve never heard of Kringle before! It looks wonderful…. Is it a purely Wisconsin thing?

Kringle isn’t just a Wisconsin thing, it’s a Racine, WI thing. More specifically a West Racine thing (this is a neighborhood not a city). This area originally had a large Danish population, and Kringle is really a Danish pastry. There are things called Kringles available from other places, but they really aren’t the same, though the ones made by the Crestwood bakary associated with Sentry supermarkets weren’t bad.

Anyway, as Irene will testify, I eat myself sick for several days every time we get one. My favorites are pecan and apple. One thing Irene didn’t mention is that a Kringle is a race track shaped thing about 18″ by 12″, with the track about 4″ wide. It will serve twenty people or two from Racine.
