Last Box of the Season

by irene on December 21, 2004

Each April we’re always excited with the prospect of our very first produce box of the season. Come December, the reality of the winter sets in in a very unpleasant way. We’re faced with our last CSA box of the season and it’s a jolt of reality.

Our routine changes from shopping mainly at the local butcher shop to actually being faced with trips to the grocery store for generic, bland, tasteless vegetables. Once you start getting fresh produce from the farm weekly, you are ruined when faced with this prospect.

And with some of the ingredients of the last box of the season, I made up a big batch of beef stew. Carrots, turnips, celariac, parsnips, garlic and potatoes, all from the box, made it’s way into this batch. The puppy waited patiently for her plate of stew as well.
